Pete Mckee Pete Mckee

Pete McKee was born in 1966. He grew up on a Sheffield council estate and his working class roots provide a major source of inspiration for his poignant and often humorous paintings.

In 2004, after several years as a commercial artist Pete Mckee decided to concentrate on his paintings. Blending influences as diverse as Lowry, Edward Hopper, Reg Smythe and the clean expressive art of Georges Remi, Pete created his celebrated style. Adding an extra, unique twist (and also a nod to his DIY/"shoestring budget" beginnings) Pete Mckee came up with the idea of painting emulsion onto MDF board.

The emotional impact of Pete Mckee's work cannot be underestimated - like a faded photograph found at the back of a drawer - the artist's work brings to life people, places and characters that time has all but erased. Mods, rockers, British seaside holidays, chopper bikes, working men's clubs, factory girls and teddy boys are just some of the subjects that live on in the world of Pete Mckee.

Pete Mckee's first exhibition "Urban Legends" was a resounding success and since then the demand for his work has increased dramatically. Since that first show Pete Mckee has exhibited a further eight collections in the north of England and built up a considerable following.

2007 has been an extremely busy year for Pete Mckee so far. Following his first London show "Lost Weekends" he launched the McKee open edition range at the Spring Fair in Birmingham and exhibited a collection of original work at the Art Expo fair in New York. As a result of his New York show Pete McKee was commissioned by Acme studios to interpret a selection of characters from the Simpsons, Family Guy and Futurama.
Pete Mckee has also been chosen by Noel Gallagher to represent him at Gibson Guitar's "Guitar Town" event in London this summer. Pete will paint a 10ft fibre glass guitar for the Oasis star which will then be auctioned for charity.
